Fluctuating Voltage Solved

I have 1994 SAAB 9000CS ECO and hope the following will be of help to others with a similar problem.
Over an extended period the EDU has shown that the voltage has been fluctuating between 12.4 and 13.2 volts without any relevance to the momentary load changes, eg AC or radiator fan turning on or off, also the voltage reading after start seemed several tenths of a volt lower than earlier. The fluctuations worsened to the stage that some relays behind the glove box would chatter, the headlights would die for a moment and at the same time the ignition would miss. The radio also lost its memory so that the code would have to be entered before the radio would start again.
Replacing the battery, voltage regulator, checking all relays and spade connectors behind the glove compartment and earthing straps in the engine bay did not help.
When following the cables from the plus terminal I found that the smaller of the two goes to a terminal in front of the battery tray, from there it goes to the alternator and the instrumentation. After opening this terminal cleaning all connectors and tightening the nuts after assembly the voltage remains stable, increasing slowly as the battery accepts the charge from the alternator. The reading after starting is now above 10 volts. Anders OZ
