Hi everyone. My wife and I are looking for a second car that will be fairly reliable (for me to drive) and I saw a 1992 9000s hatch in the paper yesterday advertised for $2900.00. I took a drive this afternoon and the car is SWEET! It's the first Saab I've ever driven and I'm impressed. The only things wrong with it are a scratch on the passenger door (not overly noticeable), the antenna was broken off recently, and it's missing the passenger side headlight wiper blade. Other than that it's in fantastic shape both inside and out, much better than I had anticipated--the dang interior is almost immaculate. It's got 143k on the odometer and is an AT. The heater core was replaced at 128k, the timing belt and water pump last summer when the AC was upgraded to R134, and he had a new radiator put in a couple of years ago, as well. The owner is the second owner, having purchased it in 1993 at an estate sale, with 16k on the odometer. He's got all of the major records of work done, and has done oil changes himself at 4500 mile intervals using Mobil 1 synthetic. The owner has not had any problems with the transmission and I could barely detect any shifting at all except from second to third, but even then it did not seem out of the ordinary. (Though, bear in mind, it is the first Saab I've driven). I checked the buying guide FAQ before I went for a test drive and I'll have a mechanic look at it on Monday. What else. . . it does not have the traction control and the car is due for fluid changes all around. He's asking $2900.00. What do you guys think? Thanks very much from a Saab newbie!
