I've had a similar problem in my 87. Replaced the clutch and slave cyl, had difficulty bleeding the system but got things going eventually. Then the flex hose popped off and again had a devil of a time bleeding the system after the repair. After letting it sit for a few weeks (a luxury most people don't have) the system bled out fine, but lost pressure the next day while driving around. I suspect the interval the car sat was enough time for the fluid to leak back into its proper location and the seals time to "dry out" on one side and temporarily work properly. A few pedal presses and things fell apart again. I'll be ordering a new master soon. BTW, mine has 199K miles on it!
