About the ACC blower motor...

The blower stopped blowing a while ago on my 94 Aero. It stopped rather suddenly and didn't go through any period of erratic behavior. The motor is less than 2 years old, and the motor runs when jumped directly to the battery. Conventional wisdom on the board here suggests that when the speed control transistor goes, the fan jumps into high speed mode, but can it fail in a way that turns the fan off? I measured the voltage at the connector to the fan (the one with the green and black wires) and got 4 volts no matter what the ACC control buttons were set to. (I tried Auto, manual Max and Min settings.)
So where can I go from here? Am I looking at replacing the ALPS unit? How can I test the transistor? Anybody know details on how the ALPS unit works for controlling the fan speed? Is there a schemat for it in the Electrical Manual? Can I check the signal coming from the ACC control box?
Thanks for your insights, folks!
