I had a clunk recently. It was right after I changed the left-drive axle. During the process, I had tried to remove the lower strut bracket (to swing the hub assy away to take the axle out). But, the bolts were stripped and self-locked. So my messing around with it made it loose enough to clunk on acceleration and deceleration. I ended up removing the ball-joint bolts instead of the susp. bracket btw. Cutting the old lower bracket bolts and putting new ones in fixed that problem.
Not saying that you have the same problem - but it might be worth checking if those bolts are loose or very old and getting stripped.
