Thanks for the hints. I never had any overheating problems but last summer I replaced the thermostat,temp. sensor unit, and anti freeze and now in traffic the temp gauge gets close to the red.
I did have some trouble a few weeks ago when the serpentine belt idling pully let go (The head broke off its mounting bolt !!). I drove it for short distances , stopping when the temp gauge got near the red and allowing it to cool . Could I have done in the thermostst or done something to cause overheating ?
