I suspect that the shop can only get their hands on a Wilson right now. So you're faced with an off-brand VR now, or a Bosch sometime later.
Put in the Wilson, and the shop will have some sort of warranty. Not all aftermarket VRs are time-bombs waiting to happen, any more than all Bosch components are lily-white perfect.
As the others have mentioned, make sure that the voltage is measured at the battery terminals, and make sure the battery and alternator grounding is correct.
