Vacuum leak Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: turbo boost question, hdm, Thu, 26 Jun 2003 09:01:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The rough idle does certainly look like a vacuum leak. A bad turbo bypass valve does provide a vacuum leak, but it's not the only place. Check the valve by sucking on the thin hose - if it's very hard to pull air through, the valve is probably fine. If you can pull air easily through, it's bad.
But every hose is suspect. Start with hoses attached to the intake plenum (between engine and throttle) and work out. Check all hoses for cracking, especially at the nipple. Make sure the hose to the vacuum canister is connected at the canister.
Check the connection between the intake plenum and the intake manifold - there's four short, fat hoses. Make sure the clamps are tight.
After you find a vacuum leak, keep going. Most cars have a few leaks of varying sizes.
