Hi and thanks for your help!
I have had trouble in the past with the linkage, but with that problem the key would not work, but the button would. I solved that problem forever by cutting part of the trunk liner away from the latch end of the linkage cable. That end of the cable was catching on the fiberboard and causing the other end to come out of the socket.
Now sometimes the button will not work, and the key will. But I suspect that you are correct about overloading because the key turns very hard. Sometimes neither the key nor the button will work which is when I go in through the back seat remove the trunk liner and trip the mechanism with a screwdriver. Not much fun.
I will try adjusting the latch per your suggestion. Thanks again.
