I just replaced all of my motor mounts (as well as the tranny mount), and in doing so, I had to loosen both sides of the subframe to make the job easier.

First drive out, and the engine is as smooth as glass now. Totally enjoyable. Unfortunately, I popped on the a/c, and a terrible noise started immediately, as well as the a/c turning off within 30 seconds. Upon inspection, the fuse blew that is contained within the fuse block in the engine bay (30 amp). I put a new one in, tried it out again, and the same thing happened.

I see now that the bottom of the a/c fan motor is pressing against the top of the frame (not the subframe). It's pressing so hard on it, that the fan is not able to turn, causing the fuse to blow (thank goodness!). I can see a groove forming in the casing of the a/c fan motor from where it is trying to turn against the frame.

Also, I popped open my sunroof (as opposed to sliding it like a moonroof), and when I pressed the button to close it, it would not close. It got stuck like something was in the way, which there wasn't. Finally, after opening the front doors, and sliding it like a moonroof, the sunroof closure eventually worked, almost like it had to seat itself.

I am certain the car had sustained some sort of front end damage at one time in its previous life (just from noticing certain things when I am working on other stuff). Now that I played around with the subframe, it seems I may have "un-did" what the bodyshop had done when repairing it. There is no other noticeable ill-effects from this happening (ie.: front-end alignment out now, "crab-walking" while cruising down the road, etc.).

Are there any ideas on how to correct this? Can I loosen the bolts slightly on the subframe, to allow the frame to drop down a little, so that the a/c fan motor isn't being pressed up so hard? Does the a/c fan motor adjust at all, so that I could push it up higher to get it off of the frame?

I don't know whether what I did improved the alignment of the frame, or made it worse.

TIA

Joe
