No arguement on BMW there. Used BMW's keep their value too good. Just could not pull the trigger many times. There are bargains on SAAB's, however. At the same time, there shouldn't be any expectation that a SAAB would keep its value. It is already low anyway.
I am a simple man. Replaced a head gasket on a Nissan years ago. Single cam. It was a debacle. Although fixed it eventually with a second set of valves. The car didn't last. Did it also on a Honda mid 90's. Never attempted on a twin cam head. Did pull my 94cs powertrain at least three times. First because the timing chain slipped on the carnk shaft. I replaced the engine. Second time was 1,000 miles after the engine replacement. Did not realize the replaced engine has a rear engine bracket for an auto transmission (mine is 5 spd). It caused the intermediate shaft to break in that short period. Or I didn't know the brackets were different until the shaft broke. The third time was when the springs in the clutch broke loose and jam the clutch.
With an engine lift and an engine stand in my garage, I wouldn't say pulling the drivetrain is a breeze, but they make the job much easier.
