I appreciate any help and thank you in advance!
I had an Abbott ECU put in four years ago and found the performance increase to be non-existent. In 75 degree F dry weather, top boost was about 11-12 psi. I am aware that with a stock ECU, top boost will be around 13.5 psi, right? So, I picked up a known stock ECU and re-installed the stock wastegate (the Abbot one was a 10 psi wastegate and I think that the stock one is 5 psi).
Here's the problem: now, the wastegate is screwed in all the way, and base boost is 6-7 psi. I plug the APC back in and top boost turns out to be around 8 psi. I haven't done a full acclimation run because in the past I didn't find them to provide that significant an increase in boost. Perhaps this is the problem, but I don't even see the ECU searching for an optimal range- it simply stays at 8 psi. This was found while in third, holding the brakes a bit to keep it under control, and going full throttle for about 15-25 seconds. I have tried resetting the ECU a number of times, with the same result.
Some other pertinent info: I put the stock ECU in initially with the Abbot wastegate, and boost was around 12 psi. Once I put the stock wastegate back in, the above happened, and thus the problem.
So, base boost is where it should be (6-7 psi), but top boost is nowhere near the 13.5 psi that it is supposed to be (it IS 13.5 psi, right?). What could possibly be causing this? I could understand if the Abbott ECU was producing stock boost and no more, but the stock combo (ECU and wastegate) can't even come close to where they should be in terms of pressure. There are no other mods to the car save a K&N air filter. Unfortunately, I don't know what the boost was before the Abbott ECU was put in, and I admit, that WOULD be a nice thing to know! Anyway, this might be viewed as a performance issue, but I'm interested in getting the stock wastge and ECU working properly, so I felt that this post fell under the "stock" category. Thanks again for any help,
Ian
