I certainly agree with Bob. My ’94 CSE had 55K when I purchased it and developed a whine and occasionally would not go into third gear around 63K. The fluid did look very dirty, so I changed it and hoped for the best. I checked the fluid the next day and it was just as dirty, so I repeated the process three more times until the fluid was red. Now I change the fluid every 4K (probably overkill), with my oil, and the same trans has 157K and works perfectly.
I would like to know the real symptoms of the “fried” trans before it is replaced. You say it whined, did it not shift correctly or just whine? If it just whined and got worse after the flush, I would drive the car and change the fluid/filter a few times. It is very possible some debris got into the trans and it just needs to settle out.
Good Luck,
Brian
