If you are not to familiar with working on the car, it might be good to let the mechanic do that.
If for any reason the other mechanic went in there to check for operation of the fuel pump relay, he might have swapped the two identical looking (but not the same) relays for A/C and fuel pump.
One relay is what we call an 87a and the other is an 87b relay, if those have changed place all kinds of strange things could happen.
