I recently installed a set of Hella FF110 driving lights on our 1994 9000 Aero. Initially, I had thought about doing what you are suggesting and using the existing fog light switch (rarely use the fog lights anyway). What changed my mind was the following:
1. Where on earth was the existing fog light relay, and how would one disconnect the high beam cutoff wire?
2. The new Hella lights came with a very well designed wiring package, to include relays, detailed instructions as to how to hook up the high beam trigger wire so the driving lights would operate only when the high beams were on. The high beam trigger wire hooks to a wiring connector behind the left side low beam light; this connector has a red release clip on one side of it. I disconnected the connector, used a test light to determine which wire leading in to the connector was the high beam wire and then spliced the trigger wire into it.
3.Also, Hella provided a very slick on off switch, with 3M adhesive backing that could be placed about anywhere on the dash that I wanted it. The switch can be turned to an on or off position, with small red and green lights on it to show what mode it was in; in the on position the driving lights would automatically turn on when you hit the high beam switch, and go off when you went to low beams; in the off position the driving lights never go on regardless of whether you have the high beams on or not.
If you can, I would attempt to go the route to order the relay and wiring harness from a Hella dealer (i.e. I used Susquehanna Motorsports in PA), and use the Hella switch instead of spending the time to modify your existing fog light switch.
p.s. The Hella FF100s are one amazing driving light for the $120 price.
