electrical system Posted by Pete [Email] (#2000) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Pete) on Wed, 6 Aug 2003 04:05:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey guys, I'm hoping you might be able to help me. I got my '94 (106,000m on it) serviced 10 weeks ago in New Orleans when I wasn't able to start it. In goes a new alternator and a new battery. I drive 800 miles home to Atlanta, no problems. Three weeks later, I move to Houston, and drive that 1400 mile journey. On the first leg, the radio (not just cd) starts skipping off and coming back on again. Second leg, my car stalls while idling in traffic on the interstate. By the time I got to Houston, it was stalling regularly and the air conditioner was obviously draining the electrical system to the point where I could not leave it on anymore.
So now, a/c problems, radio/cd problems, ABS light stays on occaisionally, headlights cut on and off at their own will...
Im sure it is electrical. But in light of the fact that I've just replaced the alternator (and before that, another 14 months ago!) what could the problem be? Many people have suggested its just irredeemable and I need to scrap the whole car. Any ideas? Its going in to get serviced today, but I dont want them to just pop in a new alternator and have problems again in 2 months.
