No big deal Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Tue, 12 Aug 2003 05:58:13 In Reply to: Door Lock Button, George, Sun, 10 Aug 2003 21:20:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That button is attached to the lock mechanism by a metal rod. The door lock actuator (electric locks) also attaches to the lock mechanism.
There a little plastic guides that, well, guide the metal rods and keep them from flopping around. My guess is that one of the guides may have broken, or more likely, fallen off. They are just press-fit into holes in the door sheetmetal.
If you wanted to be ready for anything, you could go to the dealer and see if you can get a new door lock button, with rod. My guess is that they'd have to order it, and that it would be frighteningly expensive.
My recommendation is to take the door panel off and look. Removing the door panel is no big deal, and after you've done it once, the second time is soooo much easier. My guess is that you'll just find something to snap back into place and all will be well. You might need to jury rig a guide if one is broken. Only if you open it up and find that all of the guides have been eaten by snakes and that the metal rod has been replaced with old noodles would it make sense to try and replace such a part.
I'm assuming the electric locks work just fine. If that's so, then the actuator, lock mechansim, and most of the linkages are doing just great.
