Weird voltage problem...help Anders, anyone?.

The voltage on my 92 9KT has been dipping lately. I'll be driving along and the display will drop from the mid 13's to the mid 12's. Then when I pull to a stop it's some times hanging at 12 or so. I checked the voltage at the battery and it seems to read about .3-.4 volts higher than the voltage display, but still in the twelves. I can shut the car off and the voltage will the stay the same at this point, in the mid to low 12's. The car has a year old dry cell battery and the alternator is about six months old. It seems like the alternator is just not working when this happens. I measured the voltage at the alternator and it's the same as the battery. I cleaned all the batter terminals and check the wiring at the alternator to make sure it was secure. Any ideas of what else to do?
Thanks in Advance,
Chad
