B4 I lay blame on the BPC: other causes of no-boost?

I searched the archives here, and came across some stuff on how there are other things than the BPC that could cause low- to no-boost issues.
Since I was enjoying plenty of boost just before replacing my primary O2 sensor and fuel filter (both at the same time and both replaced with oem Bosch parts), could the problem lie within one of these new parts? How could a new O2 sensor cause a problem? What about a new fuel filter?
After soaking the BPC in cleaner and resetting the ECU, I got boost again, but it was short-lived. Then I noticed while driving home from work, while the gauge stayed in the yellow (5 psi on my VDO gauge) for the whole trip and in all gears, it did jump into the red and hit 16 psi while in 4th until I left off of the gas to avoid hitting the car I came up on. Then it never left the yellow again.
Now, I understand that the BPC is mainly the liason between the ECU and the turbo, and is only there to do what the ECU tells it based on readings from many other data (ie.: fuel pressure, octane, intake air, etc.), then I wonder if the BPC is the culprit of this dilemma given the 2 items I replaced.
I have a spare fuel filter (though not Bosch, but a cheapo no-name one meant for my now-gone '96 900S), as well as the old O2 sensor I pulled out. Would it be worth the effort to put these parts in and see what happens?
Thoughts?
