Ari, can you help with a common symptoms of ABS pump suspect and the stiff brake pedal?
I got almost all classical symptoms of the bad ABS pump on my ’89 9K, Turbo.
1. Brake pedal is rock hard
2. Brake reservoir is full well above the MAX mark
3. No humming noise when starting ignition w/o engine running
4. Checked all fuses around the pump relays. No shorts or corrosion…
5. Connected pin 87 on 30 on the pump relay and then connected them to 12volts on battery: no brake fluid level drop or pump running noise whatsoever. Do I need connector to the Pressure Switch to be connected or disconnected when I short terminals 87 &30 to +12V?
6. Just before brake pedal got stiff I did smell sort of burning smell coming from the front area (m.b. from the area of the bulkhead or I might be dreaming about the smell exact location).
I am still hoping it is not an ABS pump that is gone since in such a case the car will be gone. I read on this BB that ABS pump replacement is close to $2K job and the car worth hardly $1.5K if not less.
What else can I test to confirm that this is not ABS that needs a replacement?
Thanks for your help!
