9000 does not have "contacts" like older cars Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 900aero srs light ??How do I reset it??, Cort, Tue, 16 Sep 2003 14:46:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I assume that you are asking about a 9000, not a 900, on this board. Instead of traditional horn contacts touching a ring, the 9000 has a coiled up printed circuit on a flexible backing, also called the "watch spring", that connects the horn buttons and the airbag. These commonly do go bad, but the SRS light can be triggered by a lot less - voltage fluctuations, bad grounds, phases of the moon, proximity to Mars, ....
Unfortunately, you do need one of the SAAB-only tools to reset the light. My local dealer wants $110 to read/reset the light, I'm waiting until the next time I visit my preferred indie who might do it for free. Others have eventually disconnected the light bulb for the SRS, as it will come back on for no particular reason. On the other hand, I would like to know if my airbag is not going to work!
