I have not heard anything about thermal-related problems with the throttle body before, but like I mentioned, that is my problem. It would be worth checking. I happen to know that you have the manual. ;) My throttle potentiometer is open on pin 4 when it's gold. Eventually, when it gets hot enough, it makes contact and everything works. It's worth checking the throttle resistance when it goes into limp home.
Really though, it could be almost any connection opening up and there are plenty of them... but it is strange that it happens in the morning and not on the way home. I deal with this sort of thing at work too, and it can be so hard to identify the pattern that lets you figure out the problem... That's usually the key. Once you really figure out the pattern to when it happens, the answer jumps right out. Sometimes, though, it truly is an intermittent thing and it only gets easier to get a handle on it when it becomes permanent. My car was truly diabolical in that it never happened after work when I had time to look at it. Only when I was late for work.
Good luck, let me know if I can do anything for you.
