My wife's '89 9000CD was totaled by the Insurance

She was broadsided by a pickup, pushing in the side post, read door, front door and a good size scratch on the rear quater panel. The car had no rust whatsoever, no dents, engine burnt less than a quart every 3000 miles. The car had 186K miles and was running strong except for the auto box would occassionaly slip when it dowshifted from 4 to 3.
The guy's insurance has determined that the guy was at 85% at fault and my wife at 15%. This is something that we need to fight given that the guy received a ticket for passing on the left on a double solid line and a ticket for driving an un-inspected vehicle.
They will give us $2300 and declare it totalled.
The problem that I have is that for $2300 I can not replace it with a comparable 9000CD.
I figure given the condition, I should be getting around $3000 to be able to replace it.
A few questions to the BB:
1) Is it reasonable to insisist that if they are only going to give me $2300 that I want to keep the car for parts since I can not buy the replacement for that amount.
2) Would you fight the charge that we were at 15% at fault. I believe that being at 15% at fault means that they will pay only 85% of the NADA book value, but our insurance premiums will not go up. (This is in Mass)
3)What exactly does the Insurance company do with it when they take it away? I feel like taking somke recently replaced parts like rotors, fan motor etc.
How does someone fight this in Mass without using lawyers which would probably not be worth it.I am 100% sure that in court we would win.
Thanks to Saab, neither my wife or 4yr old son was hurt, just shaking up.
Sorry for the long post.
TIA for any suggestions or experiences with this type of situation.
