the boot is the rubber part that slips onto the spark plug. Dieletric grease does not conduct electricity so by applying some to the porcelena part of the plug or the boot it prevents moisture/humidity to get in there.
With humidity in there (that conducts electricity)the spark would take the easiest path to earth (or ground) and therefore would not jump at the elctrode (tip of spark plug)...engine would misfire. How it makes the DI cassette last longer...I do not have the answer.
