A 22mm roll bar would make a big difference over the stock bars, but the stock bars are 19mm which is eqaul to 3/4 inch. The only variation from the factory is the older 18mm was replaced by the newer 19mm. Your car should have 19mm, but I would check to make sure. An open ended wrench is an easy way to measure.
As far strut braces go, yes they make a difference, but it's hard to quantify how much. When I did the front I noticed a little less body flexing under the more extreme cornerining. I have the front one that you can get from genuinesaab.com and I plan on complimenting it with the rear one. Those are both easy to install. Making your own depends on what tools and material you have available, but I wouldn't imagine it's too hard. I would want the front to be easily removable as I have taken mine out many times for various engine work.
The Abbott rear brace is clearly superior, but it much more expensive.
If you want to do a some what simple but fairly siginifact suspension upgrade. I would recomend purchasing 2 pairs (one for the front and one for the rear) of 3/4" small bracket anti roll bar bushings and one pack of end link bushings from JC Whitney. They are made by prothane and they are universal. Then I would buy a set of oem swaybar endlinks from eEuroparts.
That would give a noticable improvement in roll stiffness. If you combined this with some strut/shock bars you will be pleased.
If you really want to eliminate body roll you'd have to go with some 1" sway bars from sasab.com
Or combine the above tweaks with lowering springs and perhaps new shocks
