I currently own a '98 9000CSE and a '93 900T convertible. I used to own a '96 900S before purchasing the 9000 (as well as an '88 900S before purchasing the '96 900S).
The NG900 was nice. It had much more performance and handling characteristics than the c900, but was not as comfy and "living-room" feeling. It had more features and electronics than the c900 as well. Yes, the NG900 was more "tinny"-feeling than the c900, but less maintenance was required.
The 9000 is by far a more luxurious car than the NG900. There's more room both in the cabin as well as in the luggage area. I commuted a lot in the NG900, and put 100K miles on it in two years. There was never a thing that had to be replaced or repaired (engine/tranny). I've put 30K miles on my 9000 in two years, and have had far more maintenance issues. I'm a DIY'r, so I don't mind.
BUT: I would pick the 9000 over the NG900, hands-down! Much more power, much nicer looking (my opinion), less GM-influence (for Saab enthusiasts), more comfortable on long trips, and is no longer produced (making it a more unique and demanded vehicle).
