If the clutch hose is smooth on the outside, keep it. If it is not and has a waffled appearance, it is the old style and needs to be replaced. Replace it period. It will disintegrate. A bad clutch hose will be worse in the 1-2 shift than the rest. A coupler could also be bad. If it is bad, it will be pretty obvious if someone gets in the car, moves the shifter right and left and you look at the coupler. If it looks like it compresses more on the one side rather than the other and is oil soaked, it and the oil seal may need to be replaced. I am still betting on a hose.
