Hey board folks....i just got a 1987 9000 turbo as a parts car for my 1990 9000s. It is my first turbo car (although not my first experience) and have some questions about stuff. First off, the car sat at a junk yard for a LONG time (no rust but in morbid shape, headlight mounts are broken and windshield is nearly shattered from apparent golf ball hits). It was delivered today and me and some friends were able to unseize the brakes (told you it was sitting a long time) and such. They left and i looked at the running condition and saw the serpentine tensioner was seized up so i took the one off my not-currently-running 9000s and decided to play for awhile. The car runs great now except that the turbo gets red hot. I would not normally be concerned about this but the bearings in the turbo seem to be starting to make more noise (gradually) and i seem to be getting erratic boost. ALSO the valve cover gets totally untouchable and the temp gauge in the car doesnt function properly, it jumps around and then just rests back in null position instead of giving a reading. This means i dont know whats going on temp wise so i have to guess, could the thermostat be shot or a coolant line to the turbo be plugged?? The coolant is certainly flowing at least some of the in the motor, it gets mighty hot...maybe im just not used to the heat turbo engines produce? Anyways, just would like a helpful comment or two. I cant wait to shift this motor over to my 9000s.
PS. Who would think a car that sat long enough to have totally seized brakes would start up after 6 cranks? Yea, it's a saab.
