Hi,
Our turbos crack internally on the exhaust side, between the internal wastegate mechanism and the exhaust blade housing. Basically, what may be happening is the blades on the exhaust side are not being exposed to as much gas as they normally would be, instead the exhaust gas is escaping into the DP without pushing the blades that spins the turbo.
This is a common problem with older turbos, there will be no external exhaust leaks, so its hard to diagnose. The only way to tell is to remove the turbo out of the car and take off the exhaust side "plate" exposing the the wastegate internal swing arm and the exhaust side housing.
I was upset when I found this on my turbo, but according to others on this BB its very common with older turbies.
