Steve (gismo) is pointing you towards the most frequent source of lighting problems, the main headlight relay (the big red one in the aux fuse/relay box under the hood by the battery). You can probably pry it apart with a small screwdriver and look for bad solder joints, which have appeared in high numbers on this part.
If repairing this does not solve your problem, a less frequent cause might be the "headlight control module", a 1" by 1" by 2" high orange box that sits next to the main headlight relay. No relay in this box, but there is a small circuit board with transistor drivers. Mine had an obvious bad solder joint between the base and the board which led to strange behavior of the high beams.
