This seems to be a weird elecrical quirk. I think the culprit might be the headlight switch but thought I would query the BB to get your input (as it has proved invaluable in the past). Of course, the problem is intermittent so hard to diagnose but here is the description.

Somtimes when the headlamp switch is turned all the way to the left (in theory the OFF position) the headlights stay lit, but in all other respects the car acts as if the headlights are off (ie, the high beams do not work and the rear fog light will not turn on), but if you turn the headlamp switch all the way to the right (in theory the ON position) the headlamps go off and none of the other features as above work either). Sometimes I can get it to work correctly by turning the headlamp switch back and forth between the OFF and ON positions but not always and sometimes when I start the car it just works correctly.

I have checked all the headlight related fuses and they are not blown. I would check the headlight related relays but since they are enclosed I am not sure how, I am thinking I should replace the headlamp switch.

any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
