we can sell import car in any condition up here for $500 to a wrecker if it is dead. A few hundred dollars, holy smokes.
Up here on Vancouver Island, lots of lower miles turbos late 80s still going for $3500-5000CAD and they are selling. None od course have rust.
On the other hand yes dealers are really over the top. There was a 1988 9000T SPG (same as Carlsson in UK-with full body kit etc), and they were asking a staggering $13000CAD. Even though it only had 85K (50 k ish miles) in full rare SPG trim ith Red box yada yada, that is a fair bit steep eh? A 91 9000SPG with the TSA 225 HP engine sold locally here 2 years ago for $21000CAD.
It's like we live in Monaco or something. I would probalby pick up the 88 9000SPG for half of what they are asking...the book value for the 88 SPG model states about $7000CAD for a low miles...I have the book in front of me. The 88 9000T regular model, about $5000CAD bookvalue.
