I have the factory manuals for the 88 and can scan and send them,,,
Not sure where they went last time but they came back "inbox full". Click above and e-mail me and I will send the info from the factory books. I can also talk you through using a multimeter and where to make the checks. I've got 2 '88's in the driveway, (dailly driver and parts car) so if something strange comes up I think we can figure it out. The alternator in my 88 is not that different than the one in my old 80 C900. Sometimes, the diode package fails, and its timne to get a new one. Diode problems can be trickey, but basically, they make the alternator put out less electricity than they should. Say maybe the alternator charges untill the headlights are on? Is the light just glowing a little bit? The dash gauge in not accurate, have you confirmed with a calibrated meter? Just guessing.
