Had problem with 89 9000S not starting or starting but rough idle and no power. Replaced fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel pump and fuel injection relays. Started and ran fine for a day, then had the same problem. Tried spraying starter fluid into the intake and engine would try to start. I read on another post that the ignition amplifier could be bad and was about to replace the amplifier, but as a last resort decided to check voltage at the + terminal (15) on the ignition coil. Only saw ~3-4 volts where there should have been battery voltage (12-13 volts). Measured the same voltage at the ignition amplifier (#4 terminal, green-white wire) and at the ECU fuse (fuse 14?). Disconnected the wiring harness from the ignition switch and jumpered terminal 50 to 15 (this is how the battery voltage in applied to the ignition system). Voltage at the coil terminal (15) now read 12 volts. Engine started immediately when I engaged the starter by using the terminals on the round diagnostic test connector (jumpered 1 and 3). Never thought of the iginition switch because I had just replaced it a year ago trying to troubleshoot a starter problem, but a high resistance was causing the voltage to drop across terminals 50 and 15. Just another SAAB story, but I got a lot of good ideas reading the postings for 9000S --but don't replace expensive parts like I did until you check the voltages -- the Haynes repair manual has good wiring diagrams that help too!
