Drove 200mi w/ no clutch... Posted by AMG [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Maybe this info will help if anyone gets stranded someday? I started it in in 1st, and clutchless shifted to 2nd, then 5th. Drove from 4am to 7am to avoid traffic, only tense moment was turning the car off at the toll. Started back up but couldn't get into 5th. Trying again in the lane-gathering area did the trick, heavy traffic would have made this part much more hairy. No grinding into gear if you do it correctly, and no bucking if you plan ahead and get into neutral beforehand if you know you will have to stop. (exit ramps come to mind). All in all, no problem to get where you need to go in an emergency... saved me $300 tow.
P.S. I'd never tried this before at all, and I had ZERO clutch pressure. The hard part is matching revs to upshift into 4th or 5th, other than that, anyone should be able to do it. Don't force anything, don't try to downshift. Good Luck -AMG
