I found a frayed cable at the driver side rear hatch connection. This cable would seem to service the rear defroster and center brake light (#14? ; four wires two heavy gauge (brown, yellow) and two light gauge (#22? ; white, green). I think this was the short that was blowing fuses and disturbing the ground circuit on the hatch. Since the hatch electrical system involves the brake lights, alarm system and defroster it would seem to be an ideal candidate for the symtoms I was experiencing. I will splice the wires this weekend when I have daylight to work with (I have to work on it outside).
Anyone know how hard it is to replace the hatch electrical harness? The break is right at the flex connection and will be difficult to fix.
