I feel your pain. I had a similar experience. I had a tranny fail about 3 months after I bought mine. I purchased a used tranny and got a couple of knowledgeable friends to help me install it. That one lasted less than 30 miles. Apparently we did not have the torque converter all of the way on when we installed it. When we tightened everything we broke the high pressure pump in the tranny. It worked on friction for a short time and then I had nothing, in all gears. The car sat for a year and a half while I built up my determination to do it again. It is a big job for a backyard hack. Two weeks ago I did it again and (knock on wood) everything seems good. It is so nice to be able to drive it again. However, if I had to pay someone else to fix it I don't think I would have done it. They are wonderful cars for the DIY's but very expensive for those who must rely on others to do repairs.
