from the relay and has nothing to do with the grounding of the window circuit. It gets grd for the light from under the front L speaker in the dash. Yes the slamming of the hatch may effect a poor grd but I would check for loose grd at G8 on the dash frame first. Have you tried to use a voltmeter or test light on the feed on the window grid? The instrument cluster indicator light (if it is well grounded) is your test light for power coming out of the relay going back to the mirrors and window. If it is intermittent then look at the SOCKET of the relay and measure voltage passing thru the relay board heading to the heaters.
This is from my 93 book. Yours should be same for heater.
Grd for window heater is either at the L side in the trunk at G3 or the G26 sight is on the R side C pillar.
Your trouble is in the supply not the backend.
