I had same problem on my 88 9ks where trans fluid went into coolant. Generally, you do not need the routing through the water radiator too.
Just route the transmission lines straight to the small trans. cooler under the radiator. Bypass the temperature valve mounted on the frame crosspeice. You can easily plug the holes where the lines had gone into the radiator with the protective plastic plugs the dealer discards when he gets a new replacement radiator. They throw the plugs away.
You may need some help and new fittings to route the stiff trans. cooler lines. Would be best to go to a hydralic shop and buy new high pressure lines to fit.
