Common Failure, easy fix! Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: lamp control, tom, Mon, 17 Nov 2003 12:17:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Before you buy a new one, try to fix the old one - these are generically plagued by poor solder joints. This fix assumes that you have basic soldering skills, or can find someone who does.
Pry open the cover with a couple of small, flat screwdrivers. You will see the control unit's base and a small circuit board joined together by about eight solder joints. Carefully examine these joints and you will probably find that one is cracked or discolored - if not, use an ohmmeter to check for continuity across all the joints. When you find the bad joint(s), remove the old solder and reapply new solder. Try it out, then if it works, snap the lid back on.
If this doesn't work, either get a used one or a new one from one of the site sponsors - look at the bottom of the page.
