Thanks for the info so far. I will certainly try the gel. There was some heat glazing on the ceramic of one of the plugs I removed - which could be consistent with some minor arcing or current loss - are the CEL's that sensitive? The plug nose, as I said previously, was 'text book' clean.
The car is a UK model and 1994, post 92 facelift and 93 upgrades. It has an auto box and no TCS (hurrah). It has done 84,500 imperial miles. Auto box was new less than 20,000 miles ago. The turbo is full pressure (ie. not the Aero or LTP versions). being UK it has the Lamdasond and cat.
Regarding the CEL codes? where do I access these? On my old 9000 (86 2litre b202 turbo) I just reset the light by disconnecting the battery and used to use the connector on the lh wing to measure functions using my multimeter. A nice Canadian guy provided me with the pin details and ranges at the time.
Help would be appreciated - is there a source of info - once I had the codes on the old car diagnosis was easy.
