5th gear movement in Aero

Hi,
I just bought a 96 9k Aero. It has had excellent care and I do love driving the car. It has 161,000 miles but all service records are in place. It had a new cluch 70k miles ago. The cluch is now slipping a bit and I have decided to replace it. My local Saab trained indy is kind enough to let me use his lift and I will work with him doing the job. Now just today (2 days before the job) I noticed that the shift lever moves maybe 1/2 inch or more when comming on or off the gas in 5th gear only. It is not a eng/transmission movement but a a shift linkage movement. Its as if the gear fork and gear are sliding fore and aft. The transmission shifts fine in all gears but seems just lately a bit notchy in 5th. My long winded question is when the tranny is out for the cluch job what can be done sans a rebuilt tranny to fix the problem. I do realize that at 160,000 miles it might be time for a new tranny but all the other gears seem fine and I thought perhaps while out a a quick fix might be possible.
Again thanks to all for past help and any help on this problem
