Hi,
Had a similar problem on my 94 cs, what I did was wrap a regular socket with an elastic band...very tightly and lots of times around. I then used some vise grips to grab on the the wrapped socket and turn the bolt while I held the strut in place with an allen key wrench. It was some standard size, which escapes me a the moment but the rod definatly accepted a standard allen key wrench. Is yours a torx head?
Hope this helps a bit, and by the way mark everything with whiteout or something similar so everything goes back the right way. Have GOOD spring compressors on hand and slacken off the nut only until it's just a bit loose before the strut assembly comes out of the car, then compress the springs, mark everything, and then finally remove the top nut. Takes about an hour a side and my car felt like new afterwards.
Derek
