TCS tune-up on '92 9000 turbo (5spd)

Brought my '92 9000 turbo home, with the ABS & TCS lights full on all the way. I have the check-valve and the bleeder valve, and plan to install these ASAP, as well as clean out the throttle body.
My questions are this...
1. Do I need to have the TCS system recalibrated after installing the check valve and bleeder valve?
2. There's a fair amount of slack in the backup throttle cable. Can this be tightened any (to make it a little easier to drive if limp home mode kicks in)?
3. Which way does the check valve go? The new one is red/white, and the old one is black/white. Does the red end point towards the bleeder valve or the throttle body?
4. Exactly how bad is it to be driving around with the ABS/TCS lights on and in Limp Home Mode?
Thanks all, for any advice you may have...
Cheers,
Ben
