Hello, I just finished my son's 89T today. It was my first attempt and went off pretty smoothly. I used the haynes book , which was OK , but you can buy the engine manual from Europarts which I'm sure is much better. I worked in an unheated garage with temps between 15 and 45 degrees over a number of days. The car had a bad external coolant leak , but it never overheated , so I by passed having the head machined. I had the head in the shop to remove a broken exhaust stud and they checked for warpage. A basic set of metric wrenches and sockets plus a torque wrench and the torque sockets for the head bolts and AC brackets was all I used. Check the Twin Saab site and The townsend site for info on 2.0 head gasket repair on 900's. If you are not under time constraints , have tools and a place to work you should be able to do the job successfully. Try to familarize yourself with the job before starting. I labeled hoses and parts and even took some digital pictures to help in the reassembly.
Good luck , bj
