Help me prepare for trans & clutch job -- parts/ideas Posted by Michael [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hi all, looking to have my original clutch and transmission replaced in the nearish future [perhaps 6mos to 1yr] and would like to know what the 'best' way to do this is.
I have a 92 9000S 5spd 2.3 NonTurbo with 117,000mi. Currently, it drives fair -- becoming more difficult to get into first and reverse as the clutch seems to need to be pressed twice sometimes. I've heard that should I replace the clutch, I should replace everything about it... The reason for me wanting to replace the transmission is that I guess it feels as if it could shift smoother and if I replaced the clutch and the transmission simultaneously, I could basically have a new ride [in a sense].
Here's what I'm getting at -- I'm planning on buying all the peices I need part by part and accumulating them so that when the time comes, I'll have all parts necessary to have the job performed by a trusty indie mechanic and I can save a bit by paying less for parts and mostly just for labor. My question is; what are the parts I should start collecting? I plan on finding some from salavage yards if possible and rebuilds. Any online suggestions? Thanks so much...
My second question; is it possible for me to switch from the 5spd manual to an Automatic transmission? If so, would it be more expensive to perform/parts or less? Thanks again!
Happy Holidays!
