Hi all..
Just read this post about dull headlamp lenses..I'm just about to try and clean mine up too - I have glass lenses on the front of my CSE and a stone has pinged out a barnacle shaped chip which let water in.. This of course has evaporated and left the inside of the lens all scummy.. I managed to get some clear waterproof tape to seal the hole...
The acetone thing?? I would be very surprised if even the reflector moulding would be left let alone the reflective coating... The silvering is a vapour deposited film and measured in microns (to you and me that's incredibly thin) which makes it very delicate and susceptible to damage from even the lightest abrasion, which means that any kind of attempt to clean it will most likely make it worse than it was when you start.
The mylar film fix has been mentioned in this forum before - I actually went as far as to get one of my buddies in the states to ship some over to me (it's not generally available here in the UK). It looks as though it will do a reasonable job, but the reflectors will have to be really shot before I'd suggest doing it.. Here's a link to the manufacturer of the film in the US...

Hope this helps ... I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the removal and re-fitting of the lens...
