they will run forever with good maintenance, as George said. But you've got to keep on top of things, and that can get expensive.

I just bought a '93 Aero in July for $3,250, 129K miles, in generally good shape. No accidents, no rust, non-smoker. Well maintained, not abused, new transmission and clutch, new AC compressor, new water pump, TCS valves and hoses replaced. It was ready for its chains to be done, although they weren't in the worst shape. I've put a lot of money into this car, but my goal was different than yours: I wanted a nice upgrade in vehicles and wanted to bring the car up to a "renovated" condition.

Here are a few things that can hit you, and I've pasted George's list into my list for one, comprehensive glance:

-- Transmission, clutch, master and slave cylinders. Because of the Aero's extra power, I suppose, these wear out. You'd have your choice of rebuilt, used or new. I lucked out since mine had been replaced with a new unit 30K miles ago.

-- Heater Core. When you deal with the cabin blower fan/motor, you should do this, too. These tend to leak at this age and mileage.

-- DI Cassette. Depending on who you talk to, these go out somewhere around 60K to 80K. But it depends. Count on eventually having to do one, especially if the car you purchase is still running on its original DI cassette (mine was, at 129K!).

-- Tie rod ends, ball joints, lower control arm bushings (rears in particular).

-- Strut Bearings. Not critical, but they'll eventually start clunking. You can drive without any problems, but I chose to replace my clunkers when I replaced my struts.

-- Timing and balance shaft chains, tensioners, guides. Depends again on who you talk to, but these eventually need to be done. If you get into a car with the mileage range you're looking at, it's something to be aware of as an eventual repair. I had to do mine. Mechanics here in Atlanta estimated $2,200 on average to do this job; I did the work myself.

-- Engine seals. If you do the chains (above), you'll do the front main seals at that time. If you replace a transmission, the rear seal will be done at that time.

-- Water Pump, Thermostat, Thermofan Switch

-- Motor Mounts (upper and lower)

-- Transmission Bushing

-- Serpentine Belt, Belt Tensioner and Pulleys

-- Heater Blower

-- Exhaust System

-- Brakes (could be lucky enough to simply need to do the pads, but even the rotors aren't that bad

-- Fuel Pump. No particular mileage where they fail. Mine's fine at 132K miles. Just something to be aware of.

I know this is a long list, but you can tackle things over time. Just be aware stuff like this, if the previous owner hasn't done the work already, will eventually crop up for you.

Good luck!
