the 'zener diode accross the MAP sensor theme'.
The trionic control system uses the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) to determine how much boost is being generated at any given time. The trionic then adjusts the mixture and the timing as well as the BPC valve based on the reading it gets from the MAP sensor.
T5boost4 attenuates the MAP signal so that the Trionic thinks the MAP is less than it really is, so the boost is effectively increased.
The big limit to how much boost can be run safely is centered around the temperature of the inlet charge. Inlet air runs through a roaring hot turbo, then is compressed which, according to Boyle's law, the temperature rises proportional to the pressue. If the air is too hot when it hits the inlet track, detonation results along with serious engine damage.
Intercoolers keep this in check to some degree, but attempts to raise the boost are usually accompanied by a bigger intercooler. I know the attempts at raising the boost of the VW 1.8 turbos run up against the detonation limits pretty quickly and blown up a fair number of engines in the process.
The guy who worked on T5Boost4 has been pretty thorough, he can tell you all about fuel trims and such. If he's been careful and modest about the boost increase, it's probably fairly safe over the short-medium haul. You can't expect any hot-rod technique to have no effect on long term engine life.
Run good gas and don't get carried away with the 'loud pedal' hot days.
