reasonable large current or at least would not fry itself when there is a large current surge ?
The problem in measuring quiescent current is that a standard multimeter needs to be hooked up in series with the battery to measure current. However, when you open the car door, lights would be turned on and that might either blow the fuse on the meter or the meter itself if the protection circuit isn't that great. So you need to be careful about putting the meter in series with the battery. You may want to temporarily disable the light switches or just careful not to open the door, hatch etc.. when you try to do that.
I don't know how sensitive is a clamp-on meter these days, I have only used these clamp on adaptors for large current measurements many years back. If you could get a hand on a clamp-on type ammeter that can measure fraction of an ampere, then that would be the thing to use. Given that you have multiple 9Ks, you could use it to compare the idle current draw.
Maybe someone who is familar with modern instrumentation can comment further.
